Community Outreach Committee

Continuing our wonderful partnership with the Montgomery County Chapter of the Special Olympics, on February 15, 2015 and March 1, 2015 dozens of Bar Association members volunteered at two separate basketball tournaments as part of the Special Olympics Winter Games.      A huge thank you to all of our wonderful volunteers who helped with set up, registration, and served as court hosts!
Our next volunteer effort will be at the Spring Olympic Games in May.  Specific dates, times, and volunteer activities will be announced in the April newsletter.  We will also announce the official date for the 4th Annual Inspiration Walk in April.  The Inspiration Walk includes both Special Olympics athletes and volunteers from our Association and the community participating in a walk and/or run in Fall 2015 to inspire the participants for the upcoming Olympic season.   The Inspiration Walk is a huge undertaking and volunteers will be needed to coordinate various aspects of the event including marketing, set-up, registration, and participation.  Please be on the look-out for further information regarding this event in the April Newsletter.
Also coming up is the Community Outreach Committee’s first partnership efforts with a local animal rescue organization. This spring, the Community Outreach Section will be sponsoring an event, and looking for donations and volunteers, to help K-9 Lifesavers find “furever” homes for dogs rescued from high kill shelters, and to provide for the dogs until they are adopted. K-9 Lifesavers is a local 501(c)(3) that rescues dogs from high kill shelters in the South, and transports them to the MD/DC/VA area to be adopted! The event will be for Bar Association members and their families!
