Mentee Application                        Mentor/Mentee Guidelines

New Practitioner Section

Thank you to Judge Rupp and Paul Stein for putting on a fantastic CLE - Fundamentals of Trial Advocacy.  It had a huge turnout and was informative for everyone who attended.
Don’t miss the New Admittee Courthouse Tour & Reception, which will take place on Wednesday, April 15, 2015!  We invite all new admittees of the Bar to join us for a tour of the Circuit and District Courthouses, which will start at 4:00 p.m.  Please meet us in the lobby of the District Court (past security), located at 191 E. Jefferson St., Rockville, MD 20850, at 4:00 p.m.  The tour will begin promptly at 4:00 p.m., so please make sure you allow yourself plenty of time to get through security.  Immediately following the District Court tour, we will head over to the Circuit Court for a tour of that Courthouse.  The Circuit Court tour will begin at 4:30 p.m. in the lobby of the Circuit Court, located at 50 Maryland Ave., Rockville, MD 20850.  We invite all members of the Bar to join us for a reception to greet and welcome our new admittees, which will start at 5:00 p.m., on the 3rd Floor of the North Tower of the Circuit Court. There is no cost, and we will have free appetizers and drinks.  If you would like to attend the tour, the reception, or both, please RSVP to Caitlin Grant at or Kathryn Deckert at by April 8, 2015.  This is a great event, giving us the opportunity to welcome our newly-admitted fellow attorneys!
The New Practitioner section will participate in the Annual Meeting & Law Day on April 17 with a program on Solo Practice – From Start to Finish. Pilar Nicholas of Tomes, Salter, Nichols & Gomez, LLC, Brian Della Rocca of Della Rocca Law, LLC, and Christina Hughes of Kudel, McGann, Del Pino and Hughes, LLC will be presenting on navigating a solo practice from beginning to end.  At this interactive panel, new lawyers will learn the do’s and don’ts of setting up and managing a solo practice. Solo practitioners can learn tips about practicing on your own, when to expand your firm, and how to wind down your practice.  No matter the subject matter of the law you practice, all lawyers will benefit from a discussion of how to successfully manage a solo practice.  Please bring your questions for the panel!

Meet the Circuit Court’s newest judges! Judge John M. Maloney and Judge Karla N. Smith will be co-hosting Chamber Chat on Friday, April 3, 2015, at 12:30 p.m. The Chamber Chat will be held in Conference Room #4600, South Tower, 4th Floor. Prior to joining the Bench in January, 2015, Judge Maloney served as an Assistant State's Attorney from 1989-2007 and thereafter, as a Deputy State's Attorney. Judge Smith served as Assistant’s States Attorney from 1996 until she was sworn in as an Associate Judge for the District Court of Montgomery County, in  2012. In January, 2015, Judge Smith was welcomed to the Circuit Court bench.
The Chamber Chat welcomes all members of the bar, not just members of the New Practitioner section. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Elizabeth J. McInturff at (301) 838-3236 or

Have you practiced law for seven years or more?  If so, the Mentor/Mentee Committee is looking for your help to mentor and develop the next generation of the Montgomery County Bar Association.  Please consider participating today!
By participating in the Bar’s Mentor-Mentee Program, experienced attorney-mentors are paired with new-practitioner-mentees.  The mentors share their experiences and wisdom with their mentees. Both mentors and mentees build relationships with each other, involve themselves in the Montgomery County Bar Association, and network with other mentors and mentees.  With their involvement, each can learn from one another.
If you have been practicing law for less than seven years and would like guidance from a mentor, we encourage you to apply to get a mentor.  All applications to be a mentor or mentee are available at  They can be submitted at any time to Rosalyn Tang at or Eby Kalantar at
