The MANNA volunteer night is on February 28, 2017 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. – RSVP NOW! (the time is an update from our earlier email). Each year the New Practitioners Sections holds a volunteer night at MANNA Food Center, the premier food bank in Montgomery County. MANNA provides food to 40,000 individuals each year, including helping distribute food to nearly every social service organization in the County. Your help is needed to create boxes of non-perishable food items to distribute to clients. Our assistance helps MANNA reach those in need. If you would like to volunteer for this event, please RSVP to Elizabeth or Josh.
MARK YOUR CALENDARS: On March 21, 2017, we are hosting A Guide to the Circuit Court and Bar Association Sections from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. This event will kick-off at 5 p.m. with a tour of the Circuit Court and culminate in a reception and section fair in the Cafeteria of the Executive Office building. The various sections of the Bar Association will each host their own table and be able to provide information about their section, such as upcoming events, programs offered, how to become involved, etc. Drinks and Refreshments will be provided. This is a great event to meet your fellow practitioners and learn more about each section of the Bar Association and what they have to offer. Both newer and more experienced attorneys are invited and encouraged to attend. Please RSVP to Elizabeth or Josh.
The 2017 Annual Meeting will be held on Friday, May 5, 2017, at the Gaithersburg Hilton. The New Practitioners Section will be presenting The New Practitioners Guide to Building Your Practice in Today’s World with speakers Donald A. Rea, Esq., Partner at Saul Ewing LLP and Dean D. Jill Green, Assistant Dean of Law Career Development at the University of Baltimore School of Law. The focus of the program will be on developing your business plan, whether as a solo or as an associate in a firm, and utilizing social media to appropriately market yourself. Make sure to register!

Please join us on Thursday, February 16, 2017 at 12:30 PM with the Honorable Terrence J. McGann. The Chamber Chat will be held in the Courtroom 8C jury room, in the North Tower of the Circuit Court. This is an excellent opportunity for practitioners, both new and experienced, to gain insight and knowledge in how to refine your trial advocacy skills, become a better lawyer and to get to know Judge McGann. The Chamber Chat is open to all members of the Bar, not only members of the New Practitioner’s Section. We encourage all to join!
Judge McGann has been a Judge on the Circuit Court bench since July 16, 2004. Judge McGann is currently on the Civil Track 4 rotation and beginning July 2017 will be on the Criminal rotation. Bring your lunch and take advantage of this opportunity to get to know a member of our Circuit Court bench in an informal setting, ask Judge McGann questions about practicing law in the Circuit Court and learn essential litigation skills.
